Important Reminder - Halibut Moratorium Permit Deadline
is April 5, 2010

Please be On-time - The deadline for submitting your halibut Limited Entry Permit/Moratorium applications is April 5, 2010. NMFS has emphatically stated that they will NOT accept late applications. You can find more information about the program here: http://www.fakr.noaa.gov/sustainablefisheries/halibut/sport.htm or by calling their Juneau office at 907-586-7202 or emailing Amberly Lail at amberly.lail@noaa.gov with your questions.

Accuracy is Key - We have received multiple comments that NMFS is thoroughly reviewing applications and more than a few are being pushed back as incomplete or filled out incorrectly.  Please take extra time to assure that you have completed your application accurately. If you are unsure, it would be best to contact them.

Angler Endorsement Issue – The North Council is planning to act on a potential change to the angler endorsement calculation at their April meeting. But don’t wait for their judgment – You still must submit your application by April 5. If you think your situation is different from the green sheet (“Official Charter Halibut Record Summary”) you received, send in an appeal and make sure to check the appropriate information in Blocks C and D and state your intention to appeal. If they decide to change the calculation, they will have to notify us with a revised procedure.

Buy/Sell Forum - Guides and lodge owners needing to purchase or sell transferrable permits can post their requirements on this easy-to-use bulletin board. The service is FREE for guides and lodge owners in Southeast (Area 2C) and South Central (Area 3A) Alaska. You can access the forum here: http://www.seagoalaska.org/bboard/bboard_index.asp

If you have questions or comments please contact John Blair, john@seagoalaska.org or 925-366-6638.
